18) Demolition, Firemen & Footings - June '17
In April I was contacted by the Woodstock Fire Chief, he had learned that we were planning on demolishing the old cottage (one of the firemen is the Town Planner!) The Fire Department was wondering if they could assist in the destruction and at the same time hold a training exercise for the volunteers. We were happy to oblige. In a small town it's always a good idea to get along with the firemen and women. After all, you never know when they'll be needed, plus we know most of them!
They didn't actually burn the place down, that would be environmentally unsound, not to mention dangerous, instead they put in a smoke machine. Still, seems pretty dangerous to me to be up on a slippery roof in the rain, with a giant circular saw.
With the operation complete, time to really tear it down. Here's excavator Jim Farrell in the process of tearing the front off. It was cool to watch him pull out the oil tank. Symbol of a bygone age.
